PPG Industries’ fiber glass business has expanded the direct draw roving portfolio with APE-free products that offer a combination of hydrolysis-resistance and strength-retention properties. These new products will be featured at CAMX: The Composites and Advanced Materials Expo at the Dallas Convention Center in Texas, Oct. 26-29, and they will be showcased throughout 2016 at trade shows, expositions and other industry events. Available in E-Glass and E-CR Glass compositions, HYBON 2052 direct draw roving is designed for high- and low-pressure epoxy pipe applications and pressure vessels. It is compatible with amine- and anhydride-cured epoxy resin systems. “These products are uniquely compatible for epoxy resin systems,” said Camilo Serrano, PPG global business manager, direct draw fiber glass products. “The tailored chemistry, which uses an APE-free sizing system, offers excellent fiber-matrix interfacial hydrolysis resistance and strength retention. These benefits contribute to superior long-term composite durability for our customers.” Supported by PPG’s fiber glass technical resources team, these products are currently produced in the U.S. and are globally available in various TEX/YIELD options in filament diameters ranging from 16 microns to 23 microns. “PPG is a worldwide leader in quality reinforcement and yarn solutions for a variety of markets,” said Kevin McDonald, PPG vice president, fiber glass. “The launch and commercial availability of these direct draw fiber glass roving products in both E-Glass and E-CR glass compositions supports our customer-focused strategy of delivering innovative products that meet stringent specifications and performance requirements.”
